02/17/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Lacy is a pretty name for a mature and well-mannered dame we have here at the Manhattan Care Center. She is understandably a little bit lost, and a home sweet home would very quickly take care of her discomfort. Lacy is ready and waiting at her door. She is leashed in an instant and is just as fast in the street. She pulls a little on the leash, respects the birds and does not at all answer when another dog barks furiously at us. A real plus in a big city. She seems very much house trained, slowing down her pace after she has attended to her business. Free in a pen, she explores and hovers around me. She likes treats, will jump for them but also can sit on command. Upon request, she will settle by my side and relax with caresses and sweet talks. Lacy has not tried playgroups with other dogs yet because of the bad weather but she seems to enjoy the presence of her peers very much. Lacy’ past is not known to us. She appears to have been a mother, is of a decent weight but her nutrition might not have been the best. Her coat is matted and she has calluses. Her beauty prevails, though, and just imagine how gorgeous she will be in caring and loving hands…yours. Lacy is at the Manhattan Care Center, dreaming of a new and better life as your forever best friend.
02/16/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lacy pulls a bit on leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. She was calm and relaxed during the first part of the handling. Lacy did a lot of jumping up, body checking, she became overaroused during the tag interaction snapping at the assessor in the leg during the second tag. For safety reason the behavior team decided to skip the rest of the handling part of the assessment. During the resources Lacy took the toy away but had soft body language. Lacy show a bit of concern during the tag interaction she became over arousal. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 4. Dog responds with her body a bit stiff and body checks the Assessor and Snap Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy.
02/16/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Lacy displayed a tense body during intial greeting, eventually opening up and engaging in play with the male greeter. During her second interaction, Lacy was initially playful, and offered correction for mounying. With prolonged time in the yard, Lacy became more intensely pushy during interaction, beginning to jump on, vocalize and chatter toward the other dog. Lacy arrived into our care as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with dogs are uknown. Based on observation while in our care, the behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction for Lacy to ensure compatibility with a resident dog. When off leash with other dogs, Lacy is a bit tense during greeting. She eventually begins to solicit play by offering spins and bows. Lacy offers correction to a puppy with a more rambunctious play style. 2/17 update: Lacy is initially playful, and offers correction for mounting. She becomes more intensely pushy with prolonged interaction time, jumpiong on, vocalizing loudly and chattering at the other dog.
