WEB MEMO: A volunteer writes: Spending time with Hugo here at the care center, I thought at first that I was dealing with a dog subdued by his relinquishment. But when I read what his life and long time owner had to say about him, I realized that Hugo was just behaving himself, a nice, low key, gentle, calm and friendly elderly chap with not a mean bone and who would not hurt a fly…Kennel staff had already told me that he was a very nice guy… Hugo might not have seen a veterinarian in a very long while but he seems to have been well cared for. Nice coat, nice weight, clear eyes and mostly a state of the arts personality.. Still Hugo was surrendered into our care as he had, due to arthritis , difficulties to climb the stairs of his walk up dwelling… He comes with stellar comments, though:great with kids, with other large dogs(Pities and Huskies) and even with his 4 cats… That is really a bonus…He loves food(pizza is his favorite) and snacks, likes to sleep a lot and is ready to hop into any open car door…. He is very house trained which we did verify. Hugo is really a very sweet gentleman , leashed easily and a good slow walker. He does have some difficulties to step in and out of his kennel but does quite well the short flight of stairs leading to our yard. He meets very properly other dogs even if they are a bit rude and still has a polite eye for the ladies. He makes such sad eyes when I caress his head and he wags his tail even more… What’s not to like about Hugo? I know that his age might not be a plus but he has so many attributes that we would love to see in our pet companions. I fell in love with this elderly lion who seems to carry the world on his shoulders now that he has lost his master and his home. Will you help him unload his burden and open your heart and hearth to this gentle soul. Hugo is at the Manhattan Care Center, ready to start a new page in his life with you!
