Summary:: Kory is difficult to remove from the kennel, lunging and snapping at people who approach him. He has also allowed minimal handling from his caretakers. Out of concern for his stress levels and his response to restraint, we feel Kory is not a good candidate for a handling assessment at this time. Please see his owner surrender profile for a full summary of his behavior in his previous home.

Summary:: Kory was yelping, alligator rolling, and did not allow handling.
ENERGY LEVEL:: Kory’s previous owner described him as having a high level of activity. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to how uncomfortable Kory is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. Place with a New Hope partner: Kory has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression
Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding: Kory’s previous owner notes that he may growl when his food bowl is approached. We recommend that Beatty be left along while eating, and that food guarding behavior modification steps (available at ASPCApro.org) be utilized if this behavior is problematic in his future home. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Kory’s mouth, and any time something is removed he should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. He should be taught the “drop” cue and trade-up games.
