10/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Kordell was returned by his previous owner due to behavior concerns that he was showing in their home. The owner reported that on one occasion, Kordell” turned” on them and apparently tried to attack everyone in the home. Due to this report, the Behavior Department feels that he should be placed with an experienced adopter and want to note that we have not seen any concerning behavior here at the Care Center. Kordell has only displayed human-social and dog-social behavior here. SAFER 9/22:Kordell came into the shelter as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. Upon intake dog was nervous and showing his teeth. Counselor was able to scan and photograph Kordell but not collar. During SAFER kordell was friendly and he had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Kordell was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Kordell was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Kordell appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels can be suitable for an “Average” adopter with a slow approach. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: No interest. Playgroup:Kordell is still nervous but slightly more comfortable today in little dog play group. UPDATE10/26/16: In addition to the previous adopter’s reports about Kordell’s concerning behavior, he has begun resource guarding both his toys and food while here at the Care Center. When approached, he bares his teeth then lunges at the kennel door. Due to this behavior, the Behavior Department feels he is only suitable for an adopter or rescue group that has experience managing and modifying Kordell’s severe resource guarding behavior.
09/21/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Kordell was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. 9/21: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Kordell is nervous as he wanders in a group of male and female dogs. He mostly keeps to himself and will lip curl and low growl when a dog greets him for longer than his comfort level. 9/22-9/23: Kordell is still nervous but slightly more comfortable today in little dog play group. 10/20: Kordell mostly keeps to himself as he wanders in a group of male and female dogs. 10/21: When greeting another dog for a prolonged period of time, the offer dog offers a hard correction to Kordell and Kordell begins to react back. The handlers are able to quickly separate them. 10/23-10/28: Kordell engages in running chase play with a group of small dogs.
