01/05/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
01/05/16 11:33 BASIC INFO Koji is a young adult male Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix. He was found outside 3 weeks ago. He was thinner at the time. His finders has been feeding him mostly dry Alpo food with a little wet Beneful food 3x/day. They report that he defecates immediately after eating and that his stool is often soft. They think he is gaining weight very slowly. Koji has long nails and dandruff in his coat. His finders are being evicted and can no longer care for him. SOCIALIZATION Koji is friendly/outgoing with strangers. He’s relaxed, playful, and plays exuberantly with dogs he meets outside. He hasn’t bit anyone while staying with his finders. BEHAVIOR Koji’s finders report the following: He doesn’t mind when someone takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, or wakes him up. He’s nervous during baths. He’s friendly with strangers who approach his home/family. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Koji’s finders describe him as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, and high energy. His primary caretaker was a teenage male. They became attached very quickly. Koji followed him everywhere. His favorite activities were being with his finder and getting belly rubs. He plays with rubber chew toys and plays chase and fetch. He lived inside and slept in bed with his finder. He’s housetrained and potties anywhere outside but has to be walked immediately after eating. He’s mostly well-behaved while left alone. Once, he lightly chewed on a phone and once on a shoe. He know sit. He went for brisk walks, jogs, and runs and doesn’t pull on his leash. INTAKE Koji approached with a loose, wiggly, slightly low, body and fast wagging, low (but not tucked) tail. He maintained this while we pet him, scanned him (-), collared him, and positioned him for pictures. He often leaned against us and/or stood up into our laps and licked us gently. He was a little bouncy, sometimes play bowing, but never pulled on his leash. He took treats readily. He went into his kennel when asked.
01/07/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Little Koji (yes, little is quite appropriate as Koji weighs only 29 pounds…) is with us as his short term family lost its home…He was found as a stray, all weak and skinny and nursed back to health by a caring teen whom he was even sharing the bed with at night. Koji comes with excellent comments— Friendly and sociable with strangers, playful with dogs he does not know, housetrained, a good walker, even a runner and a jogger, affectionate and loves balls and toys. Koji is a tiny tan speck in his big kennel, so cute and delicately made. His eyes are huge and speaking for his tender soul. He accepts easily the leash and off we go for a walk around the block. He does his business before we return to the care center. A little shy and wary at first, Koji relaxes fairly quickly and comes running at the call of his namel. He likes to be caressed and his tail wags as fast as an electrical egg beater. A stop on my lap is a must. I even get a furtive kiss. Koji already had his chance at playgroups and did well meeting his peers although he was a little shy. Koji was found to have a big heart murmur and will need to be assessed by a Cardiologist. He is not falling apart and is rather quite lively, active(see his former owner comments), has a great appetite and acts like a healthy dog…Those are all plusses plus the major plus….He is a very nice pooch. So, do not let him down, consider him as a good little dog who will make a new owner very blessed to have him. Koji is at the Manhattan Care Center.
01/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Koji pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Koji had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. He shows minimal interest with the toy he licks it and then turns away. Koji did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, or low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog may smell or lick toy, then turn away. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Koji offers brief greeting to the helper dog. He appears a bit sexually motivated, but backs away from and eventually corrects pushy play solicitation.
