08/09/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Easily leashed from his kennel, Knox hops out quickly and heads for the door. Once outside, going potty was his first priority, showing me he’s likely housetrained. His leash manners are terrific, his little legs trotting at a good pace by my side. We’re told he has dachshund in him, and I’m betting there may be a Basset Hound somewhere in his lineage, as he has the front legs and paws indicative of that breed. Whatever he is, he’s tiny and cute, takes treats gently, sniffs me as we stop to take some photos, and from time to time gives me a little tail wag. Knox was surrendered by his family which included kids from 2-5 with whom he played, but could be a bit rough. We’re told he doesn’t like other dogs, although in his first playgroup he greeted the helper dog politely and then kept to himself. Knox is going to need time to adjust to a new person or family, so will need an experienced home in which he can feel his way on his own timetable.
08/09/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Knox was very fearful when he meet the assessor his head was low, eyes averting, and tail tucked. He is under either social or environmental stress. Knox stiff and did not show social behavior during the assessment. He was uncomfortable Knox was giving warning signal (whale eyes, wrinkles his muzzle and freezing). The behavior team decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Knox was not interested in toys. Knox was surrender to us. According to his previous owner he lived in a home with kids 2 to 5 years old. He plays well with them and is somewhat rough with them. He gets uncomfortable around other dogs”. Knox did not really allow councilor to approach him during his intake. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Toy 1: No interest. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Knox greets politely. He then keeps to himself while roaming around the yard.
08/08/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
8/8: When off leash with other dogs, Knox greets politely. He then keeps to himself while roaming around the yard. His previous owner cites that “he will fight with other dogsl” without much more detail. Due to owner surrender profile, and limited observation in playgroup, the behavior team feels it is best that Knox remain the only resident dog in a home at this time until his behavior around dogs can be followed up on outside the care center.
