A volunteer writes: I’m not sure if I’m supposed to know who or what King Mason is (I don’t), but I was prepared to meet royalty and I wasn’t disappointed! He’s quite the gorgeous hunk in his tan brindle coat and perfect physique and I found myself standing taller and straightening my clothes to be worthy of my royal companion. Not surprising for royalty he seems to be housetrained, has lovely leash manners, posed for photos like a pro (I was waiting for that royal wave), sat right down for a treat which, of course, he takes gently. King Mason loves toys, playing with them gently and bringing them up on the bench to share with me. We then cuddle for a bit, and we enjoy a gentle game of tug. He’s so soft and easy I absolute adore him. In group play he romps and runs with both males and females. King Mason didn’t want to go back in his kennel and I didn’t want to put him back. I promised him a home worthy of his ‘royalness’, and am counting on you to help my keep my promise. He’s a fabulous dog who I know is willing to relinquish his royal title for a home with a loving person or family. Ask to meet King Mason today.
11/03/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 11/3/16 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor. He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1/2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog sniffs, then turns away. Summary: King Mason displayed no concern during his behavior assessment. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Selective: These dogs can succeed with certain other dogs, but may be more selective or picky. They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs. PLAYGROUP: 11/2: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, King Mason greets with soft body and wagging tail. He solicits and engages in a rough style with play in a group of female dogs. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/2/16 During his initial medical exam King Mason was tense and nervous. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience)
11/02/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
King Mason engages in rough play with male and female dogs. It has been observed that King Mason has been selective when engaging with male dogs, and at times becomes tense and uncomfortable during interaction (this has typically occured when the other dog exhibits anxious behaviors). Based on observations made on King Mason while in our care, the behavior department recommends slow introductions between King Mason and other social female dogs. King Mason may benefit from a pre-adoption interaction with male dogs in a potential future home due to his apparent selectivity when interacting with them. It cannot be said for certain how his behaviors in the care center will translate into a home environment. 11/2: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, King Mason greets with soft body and wagging tail. He solicits and engages in a rough style with play in a group of male and female dogs. 11/3: King Mason greets female dogs and a neutered male politely. He tenses and growls at slightly anxious and smaller male when he is whining at the door. 11/4-6: King Mason engages in rough, running play with males and females. 11/7: King Mason engages in rough running play with males and females. He is a bit tense when solicited by a much larger male, but tends to ignore him and walk away. 11/8-9: King Mason engages in rough play with female dogs, ignores male dogs in the pen.
