I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 02/07/2016 from NY 11208, owner surrender reason stated was NO TIME.

02/07/16 18:37 Basic Information: King James is a five year old black and white American Pitbull terrier. He was surrendered by his owner due to owner no longer being able to care for him. He is described as friendly, affectionate, and mellow. Socialization: King James has lived with two adults and one small child. Around strangers he is described as friendly and outgoing, he will engage in excited play. Around children he is relaxed and tolerant, owner stated King James did not mind when his ears were pulled or tail. He lived with a small breed dog and was relaxed and affectionate. Owner stated King James would engage in gentle play with the other dog in the home. He has not been around cats. Behavior: King James is not bothered when his food is touched while eating. Owner did not bathe, brush, or trim King James nails. Owner stated when a stranger approaches his home he will bark and greet the visitor with a loose wiggly body. For a new family to know: King James has a medium activity level and when home tends to follow his owner around the home. He has been kept only indoors and when left alone is well behaved. He knows the commands sit, stay, and lay down. He is used to leashed walks twice a day and off leash walks once a day. Owner stated while off leash King James will stay close by. He eats dry food Purina brand and was fed once a day. He will sleep in the bathroom. Upon intake King James was calm had a loose body, he allowed all handling. Counselor was able to collar, scan (negative) and photograph. King was receptive to treats.

A staff member writes: King James will greet you with a loving and calm personality the moment you are in his presence. When he meets strangers he is ready to play and rumble and around children he is gentle and tolerant. King James lived with a small dog and appropriately played with him, making sure his size did not interfere. Most times he relaxes and could be a cuddle bear. King James is waiting patiently for his castle, so come in and give him a loving home.

During SAFER King James came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and affectionate towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. King James was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment King James was easy to handle when engaged with the item. King James appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter.Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth.Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed.Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed.Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy.Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, King James greets the helper dog with a bit of hesitation and nevousness- lowered body and head. When off leash with other dogs, King James greets the helper dog with a bit of hesitation and nevousness- lowered body and head. He is tolerant of a playful female but does not play. King James does stay engaged and interacting with the other dog though. 2/11 update: King James greets a bit nervously with a tense face but becomes more relaxed once in the pen. He does not engage in play and will correct for pushy soliciting.

02/08/16 17:13 Scan : negative Sex: neutered Approx 5 yr S/O: BARH, clean EEN, mild tartar on teeth. Scaling on ear tips. Two spots of alopecia on right paws, one spot of left rear hock, lateral side, approx 2 cm. Mild erythema and scaling on area. Applied Gentaspray to hot spots. A: Alopecia, possible hot spots, suspect self trauma or from laying on hard surfaces. P: Gentaspray on spot x 7days, recheck PROGNOSIS: EXCELLENT
