06/13/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/08/16 17:00 Basic information: King is a male, black and white, American Pitt Bull terroir. His former owner got him from a neighbor in November of last year. The dog was surrendered because the owner’s living situation is not suitable for a dog anymore. It is unknown when the dog was last seen by a doctor. Socialization: King is a very friendly dog. He is not shy with new people at all. He has been around children ages 1 year and up. He is always gentle with the small children. He does tend to get a little bit rough with adults. His former owner said that he is used to rough play with adults. He loves to get out to the dog park and run. Kings has spent time with two other pit bulls as well as well as two small dogs. He got along well with all of the dogs. He was always playful. He has never bitten another dog or person before. Behavior history: King gets nervous if there is a thunderstorm or fireworks outside. He will hide and cry. He is not bothered if someone touches his food bowl while he is eating. The same can be said if a treat or toy is taken away from him. He loves being brushed but he does not like getting his nails trimmed. He will pull away. For a new family to know: King is described as friendly, affectionate and mellow. His activity level is on the lower end. When his owner is home with him he likes to follow them around the house. He has been kept primarily indoors. He is used to eating both wet and dry food. He is very well trained to use the bathroom outside. When he is left alone at home he is very relaxed. King is very smart. He knows how to sit, stay and come. He does pull lightly on the leash during his walks.
06/11/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A Monarch down on his luck? Yes, sometimes even adorable teddy bear-faced pups like King find themselves living the hard-knock life, but our wee man still knows how to rock his tux’n’tie combo like a regal pro. King loves people and is always keen to socialize, especially with those who come bearing gifts of food! His wiggly booty is constantly on the go, but he walks well on leash, appears house trained, comes when called, and will wait politely for treats which he snarfles softly from my hand. Though he’s more into playtime than snuggles, King enjoys getting up on the bench and walking all over my lap while I pet him, and hey, this way we both get a massage! He has an eye for the ladies which keeps him a bit distracted in playgroup sessions, but even yappy little pups don’t faze him, and he greets everyone we pass in the street with friendly tail wags and an open heart. If you’re searching for a fun, affectionate and dapper companion then look no further, King is ready and waiting to be your new BFF! Come on in to our Manhattan Care Center and pledge your loyalty to His Royal Cuteness today. Another volunteer writes: It was quiet in the room; I was looking for King and heard a soft snore of peaceful sleep. It was King! The best sound in the world, and made better, of course, if he were sleeping on his own bed in his new home. He came forward to be leashed when he heard me and as soon as we stepped outside the adoption counselors called out to him telling me he is their favorite dog! After stopping to snuggle with each the behavior team then told me he’s their favorite too! “He’s the man!, one said. He’s totally awesome, great on leash, seems to be housetrained, made friends with people in the park, and off leash comes over for petting, and does well with both males and females in group play. He needs some TLC for his coat and good nutrition to maintain his care, but when he lays down froggy style wagging his tail and smiling at me, I knew this is a dog I’d claim to be mine if I could. Don’t miss the chance to meet him today!
06/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
King came to us as a stray so we don’t have any behavior information other than what has been observed in the shelter environment. King was very interested in interacting with the assessor when entering the behavior room. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items while maintaining soft body language. He became a bit aroused during the tag interaction engaging in play and jumping on the assessor a bit strongly, but calmed quickly. He only displayed minimal interest in the toy on this portion of the assessment. We believe that King can go to an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. He indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on assessor a bit strongly but calms quickly. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. When off leash with other dogs King is persistantly sexually motivated.
06/07/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
King engages in rough play with other dogs, at time attempting to mount females (however, he is an unaltered male). Previous owner cites “He loves to get out to the dog park and run. Kings has spent time with two other pit bulls as well as well as two small dogs. He got along well with all of the dogs. He was always playful.” The behavior department feels that King may be placed into a home with another playful dog. 6/7: When off leash with other dogs King is persistantly sexually motivated. 6/8: King engages in pushy play with the helper female, running and using his paws frequently to engage. 6/9: King engages in rough play with males and females. He displays sexually motivated behavior around select females. 6/10 update: King engages in rough, wrestling play with another male. 6/11 update: King, again, engages in rough play with males and females.
