05/18/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
King came to us as an owner surrender due to the owner not being able to control King and him soiling in the home. According to the owner King has lived with children and is recorded to be friendly and playful when around them. He is friendly and exuberant when interacting with strangers and playing with adults. King did not get along with the cat in the home and was said to bark, chase and nip at the cat. The owner stated that King will destroy any items left unattended in the home and will eliminate indoors if not taken out within an allotted time. When unfamiliar people approach the home King will bark and growl. King walked well on his leash for his relief walk and was interested in interacting with the assessor. He did appear to be high energy with his very fast movements upon entering the room. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items while maintaining soft body language. However, King did become a bit over aroused during the tag interaction. He would constantly jump up and mouth the leash a bit strongly in a playful manner but de-escalated slowly. When chewing on the toy item King would take the toy away with soft body language and put his body between the assessor and toy. Due to all of the owner’s comments, Kings high energy during SAFER we believe placement with an experienced adopter is best at this time. We also recommend King not go to a home with cats. Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, and open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. He indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog becomes over aroused quickly, mouthing the leash strongly and is slow to de-escalate. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. According to King’s previous owner, King has no experience with other dogs. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, King is bouncy and playful. He solicits play with paw slaps and engages in gentle play.
