05/12/16 18:57 Basic Information King was brought in as an owner’s surrender due to owner having personal problems. Owner has had King for the past ten years after purchasing him at a pet store. Owner notes that King has diabetes and was last seen at Armory animal Hospital two weeks ago. Socialization & behavior King is described as being immediately friendly when around strangers. King has spent time with children in passing, and owner says he is playful and affectionate with them. King’s behaviors with other animals are unknown, but owner says he is unbothered when passing dogs on the street. According to owner there have been no past issues of King biting anyone or another animal. King is unbothered if food is touched while eating, owner says he’ll ignore and attempt to keep eating or follow the bowl. King is unbothered if possessions or toys are touched. King I strained not to get onto furniture and unbothered if disturbed while sleeping. King does not like baths but will deal, and enjoys being brushed. King does well with nail trims when owner gives him a treat to distract him, and is friendly and playful when someone unfamiliar approaches. For a New Family to Know King is described as friendly, playful, mellow, and confident with a medium activity level. Owner sways when home he is normally following him around, and enjoys chew toys. King is taken outside three times a day, and fed Purina wet food. Owner says he is house-trained going outside and with wee-wee pads. Owner notes that since diagnosed with diabetes King cannot hold it and has accidents a few times a week. King is fine when home alone, and understands commands sit, eat, and come. Behavior during Intake King was friendly during intake. He allowed petting and accepted treats. King sat when told, and allowed all handling. King showed no signs of aggression during intake.

King walks calmly on leash. He was fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. King was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in toys. King does not approach other dog, attempts to exit. King was surrender to us. According to his previous owner he is friendly, playful, mellow, and confident with a medium activity level. King is described as being immediately friendly when around strangers. King has spent time with children in passing, and owner says he is playful and affectionate with them. King’s behaviors with other animals are unknown, but owner says he is unbothered when passing dogs on the street. King is unbothered if food is touched while eating, owner says he’ll ignore and attempt to keep eating or follow the bowl”. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. King is somewhat fearful and needs time to warm up to the handler. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when King is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is stiff and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, shy body language, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor.
