A volunteer writes: When we say the NYC ACC accepts any animal into their care, they weren’t kidding–we even take baby pandas! Well, we may not have animals as exotic as the great panda, but we do have some just as cute! With his distinctive black patch over his left eye, black ink splattered on his ears and legs that are shorter in the front than they are in the back, King has quickly garnered the nickname, “Panda dog!” Surrendered to our care because his owner was having “personal problems,” he was reported to show some food guarding. Frankly, this is no surprise, as though King might have the personality of a cuddly bear, he is far too thin. Still, he takes treats nicely, and sits on command repeatedly for them. King has lived with teens, is friendly toward smaller children and lets anyone pet him, and loves attention. He reportedly gets along with dogs, loves to be groomed, and is housebroken and crate trained. When with him, aside from his adorable looks, there’s something just so magnetic about him. No picture can capture just how adorable he is, so you’ll have to come to the Brooklyn Care Center today and meet him in person!
02/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper dog: A1065009 King previously lived with 2 adults and has resided with a 16 year old and has been exposed to a 5 and 8 year old. The owner stated King plays gentle with children and adults. The owner mentioned King resided with another dog and plays gentle with other dog. It was reported by the owner King growled when the owner attempted to touch around him while he was eating but did not bite the owner. The owner describes King as a friendly, affectionate and playful. The owner stated King is house trained, crate trained for 7-8 hours, has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone. At intake it was reported King was very friendly, he allowed all handling. During SAFER King came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. King was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment King was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Due to some concerns stated from the previous owner King will growl when around him while eating, so the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter with no children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Dog licks hand. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, King greets at the gate with a tense body posture but with a soft face while sniffing. Once let into the pen with the helper dog King becomes very intense, rushes in and immediatly mounts her. Attempts to interrupt him do not slow him down.
