02/03/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper dog: A1063231 King previously lived with 2 adults, 2 cats, two children ages 13 and 9 years old and a pit-bull puppy. The owner stated King was always very good with the kids. At intake it was reported King was growling in the crate when he arrived at the care center, he was also tense but allowed limited handling. It was reported by the owners King previous attack a puppy he lived with in the home. The owner mentioned the puppy went into its kennel where it sleeps at night and began to bark at King. King lunged forward and grabbed the puppy and the owner had yelled “No, drop him”. King did drop the dog for a second, and then lunged again and this time and would not let go of the puppy. The owner reported that King has always been a wonderful and gentle dog and this situation was incredibly random. During SAFER King came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly and attention seeking towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. King was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment King was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Due to some concerns with King previous attack with the puppy in the house hold, the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter and we recommend the only pet in the household. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral.
