A volunteer writes:  King is take your breath away gorgeous!  A rich dark chocolate brown, his coat shines with good care, his weight is perfect for his size, and when his eyes turn on me I melt.  Playful and fun his energy is contagious and I wish I could stay in a pen and play with him all day.  (Lucky adopter – you can!)   He pulls on the leash so will benefit from a harness and/or some leash training,   and since he loves treats and takes them gently will learn quickly with proper positive reinforcement training.   King wagged his tail at every kenneled dog we passed on our way out the door, even the ‘littles’ and in group he’s a rowdy participant. Once outside King took care of ‘business’ peeing enough to melt a snow drift!   Chasing a ball, playing with a toy and simply doing some zoomies in the backyard, King’s lively fun energy is appropriate for a young dog. King joined us first when his original owner lost his home, and was adopted right away and returned again due to “personal problems”. He’s looking for and deserves a lifetime commitment and in return his love and companionship is the ultimate reward.   Don’t you deserve to have this awesome, stunning, fun loving young boy by your side?   Ask to meet him today!!

03/05/16  Behavior notes:

King pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, grabbing at the leash (soft). He was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He was excitable played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction (easy to distract). During the paw handling he mouthed the hand without applying pressure. King was not interested in toys.

King was surrender to us. According to his previous owner he gets along with children, strangers. He used to live with another dog and cat and gets along fine with them. Kings family described him as a hyper, playful, energetic, enjoys being pet and easily handled. King appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experienced home.

Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment.

Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and open mouth, mouths the hand, but does not apply pressure. Or, dog licks hands while lips are long.

Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body soft, wagging tail, played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction (easy to distract).

When off leash with other dogs, King engages in rough play with playful females. He becomes sexually motivated and continues to attempt to mount after correction.

3/3 update:  King ignores greeting and immediately, persistantly attempts to mount the greeter dog.
