03/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Kim has shown very little social play behavior in playgroup. She has on several occasions immediately and with intensity rushed both male and female dogs and assertively mounted from the flank side. During these encounters, Kim inconsistently responds to human interruptions or the signals from other dogs. Although she continues to be sociable with humans with no behavior concerns noted, due to her behavior in playgroup, the Behavior Department feels that Kim should live with “experienced” adopters. Please see her playgroup notes for specific details. SAFER 3/15/16: Kim came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Kim came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly and playful towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Kim joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Kim was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Kim appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. Kim appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Kim greets with a tucked tail and lowered head. Once inside the pen however she immediately mounts the helper dog but respnds to human interruptions. Afterwards she does solicit play with soft bounces and bows and engages in brief gentle play.
03/13/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Kim has shown very little social play behavior in playgroup. She has on several occassions immediately and with intensity rushed both male and female dogs and mounted from the flank side. During these encounters, Kim inconsistenly responds to human interruptions or the signals from other dogs. Due to her behavior in playgroup, the Behavior Department feels that Kim would be most suited to living in a home with no other dogs and recommend that in the future she receive positive dog-dog socialization interactions with a certified trainer or behaviorist. When off leash with other dogs, Kim greets with a tucked tail and lowered head. Once inside the pen however she immediately mounts the helper dog but respnds to human interruptions. Afterwards she does solicit play with soft bounces and bows and engages in brief gentle play. 3/16 update: Kim approaches and greets with a tense, stiff posture. She does not solicit nor engage in play but does become assertive with both male and female dogs. With a forward leaning body Kim attempts to mount both dogs and does not respond to human interruptions.
