09/02/17 15:12 BASIC INFORMATION Piffs is a large brown with white dog that is 5 years old. Piffs was bought by a breeder. The owner is surrendering Piffs due to having a busy schedule and no time to care for Piffs. Piffs has no known illness. SOCIALIZATION Piffs has lived with children ages new born and 8 years old. She is playful and excitable around children. She sometimes very excitable and jumps up. But she rubs on her back and accepts rubs. Piffs is affectionate and always seeks for attention around the family. When strangers come over she barks and becomes tense. However when she is ignored she approached and sniff. She warms up to new people and leans in to be petted. Piffs has lived with a male dog in the home. She is tolerant of male dog but growls at female dogs. Piffs has never lived cats. BEHAVIOR Piffs allows for her food bowl to be touched while eating, removing toy or rawhides from her mouth. Piffs enjoys baths and having her coat brushed. She has never had her nail trimmed. She has never had a bite history. She is walked 3 to 4 times a day to use the bathroom. She is house trained. However if she is not walked on time she may have accidence in the house. Piffs pulls on the leash and prefers to walk with a harness then a collar leash. When she is in the crate she tends to howl, chew things or cry. FOR NEW FAMILIES TO KNOW Piffs is described as shy, but playful and affectionate. She enjoys playing chase and playing with the other dogs. When the owner arrives home Piffs follow the owner home. She is well behaved at home and sleeps throughout most of the day. Piffs enjoys playing tug and fetch. Her favorite toys are balls. Piffs sleeps in the living room on her dog bed. Her favorite dog food is Beneful dry. She knows the command give be paw, sit, stay and come. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Piffs during intake was playful and excitable. She allowed being collard, scanned and photographed.

KNOWN HISTORY: Full profile 9/2/17 Spayed female, owner surrender Previously lived with: Adults, children ages (Newborn-8 years old), 1 male dog. Behavior toward strangers: Initially tense, and barks. Warms up after a few minutes. Behavior toward children: Playful Behavior toward dogs: Kiff appears to be reactive toward female dogs (growling), but does well with males. Behavior toward cats: Unknown Resource guarding: None reported Bite history: None reported Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Kiff is described shy, but affectionate, and playful. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 9/6/17 Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away. Summary: Kiff was playful, and friendly towards the assessor. No concerns were seen during the handling assessment. PLAYGROUP: According to Kiff previous owner, Kiff is tolerant of male dogs but will growl at female dogs. 9/5: When off leash at the Care center, Kiff is nervous-tuck tail, and briefly greets the novel male dog. However, throughout the remainder of her session she mostly avoids further contact with the helper dog. Kiff inappropriately corrects the helper dog when he walks past her. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/4/17 During the initial examination Kiff was shy, quiet, and submissive. Allows all handling. Appreciates attention but does not solicit it. Seemed relieved to be leaving exam room. ENERGY LEVEL: Her previous owner describes Kiff as an affectionate, friendly, shy dog. Kiff displayed medium energy and movement throughout assessment. Kiff will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised.
Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the (behaviors outlined below). _X_ Single-pet home/Recommend no dog parks: Due to the concerning behaviors that Kiff has shown during playgroup (see GROUPBEHAVIOR SUMMARY), we feel that Kiff should not visit dog parks and be the only resident dog. The Behavior Department recommends that she be socialized in a more controlled setting until her behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed
