A volunteer writes: A made up name from the Game of Thrones, Khaleesi means ‘queen’ and I’d say it suits our gorgeous, regal yet shy little girl perfectly. Quiet in her kennel, fabulous on leash, she’s stunning in her caramel and white coat, her manners are impeccable (of course, they are, she’s royalty!). She’s likely housetrained using the outside ‘facilities’ immediately, and as we walk to the park there are tons of kids out in various school outings, and she stops to watch them while gently wagging her tail. Perhaps she lived with kids before joining us? Khaleesi poses for photos with her serious face, sits before I ask when she sees my hand going into my treat bag (it only took her one time to figure out where I keep my treats) and has that shy, inquisitive look right now as she ponders her new situation. Beautiful, elegant, and quiet, Khaleesi is a bit hand shy but welcomes petting as her tail wags softly. She’s a gem, a calm and welcome oasis in the midst of more vocal and energetic dogs; I loved my time with her. You will too, so do ask to meet her when you visit.
A volunteer writes (as told by Khaleesi): Single female looking for human love. I’m quiet, housetrained, great on leash, gentle, calm and easy. I’m a favorite of volunteers as they tell me I’m the calmest, bestest girl ever. I love treats and sit for them right away, a butt scratch is divine, and if you simply want to hang out and do nothing that works for me too. I love to relax with my best friend. Not to brag, but I’m told I’m gorgeous, and that my eyes speak to the soul. I’m ready to meet my new BFF so how about you forget Match, or eHarmony, or Tinder, just come on over and meet me! It’s that easy.

DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT:
Summary
PLAYGROUP:
5/24: When introduced off leash to the male greeter dog, Khaleesi is initially a bit tense and cautious in body. She allows approach and sniff. She spends time exploring the yard while sniffing and acclimating to her surroundings. When the greeter dog approaches, she briefly offers a few toe taps and playful spins. She does not appear interested in engaging or soliciting further.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
During her initial medical exam, Khaleesi was a bit tense but allowed handling.
ENERGY LEVEL:
We have no history on Khalessi so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm.
RECOMMENDATIONS: (overall determination)
_X_No young children (under 5): Due to the behavior seen in the care center, we feel that Khalessi may be intimidated by young children. She needs a slow approach and time to warm up. Older, gentle children should have an in depth interaction prior to adoption.
Potential challenges:
_X_Handling/touch sensitivity: Khalessi has been noted to become uncomfortable with handling at times, especially when a person is reaching over her. It is important to always go slow and give Khalessi the option to walk away from any social interaction. Khalessi should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Khalessi’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Khalessi may do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to her new surroundings.
_X_Fearful: Though observed to be human-social, Khalessi may need time to warm up to the handler as she initially presents as a fearful dog, avoiding contact, shying away from direct touch. We recommend allowing Khalessi to interact at her own pace, force-free, rewarding based training is advised when introducing her to new/unfamiliar situations.
