They are overly excited when meeting new dogs, often up in the other dog’s face and not able to read subtle signals to back off, which can quickly lead to a scuffle.
PLAYGROUP:
Ketchup engages in a pushy style of play with frequent vocalization and playful growls. The behavior department recommends slow introductions between Ketchup and other dogs who are tolerant and comfortable with this style of play. Ketchup may do best meeting unfamiliar dogs on a one-on-one basis.

A volunteer writes: Looking for the perfect condiment that goes with everything? Ketchup is it!!! This gorgeous hunk is stunning in his caramel color coat, his tail wags gently as I leash him. He gives me a stand up hug in greeting, soft, welcoming and delicious! His leash manners are lovely, he doesn’t mind being tethered for photos although he’s camera shy so it’s hard to show how truly gorgeous he is. He’s friendly to all in his low key relaxed manner, wagging his tail at people we meet as well as other dogs. Showing off his ‘sit’, he takes his reward treat gently. In group play he’s a “gentle and dainty” player, tolerant and allows appropriate greeting. So well behaved, so handsome, and so well groomed, Ketchup is ready to be always there when you need him. Isn’t that what the perfect condiment is all about? Seriously, he’s an awesome dog ready to find his new home today.
