07/05/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Who’s my handsome escort you want to know? The one with the jaunty step, good leash manners and wagging tail? The one in the gorgeous, golden coat and smiling face? Why, that’s Kenta and he’d love to make friends with you too! This awesome fellow was my last walk of the day, and talk about saving the best for last! He’s housetrained and has an elegant step that makes you smile to watch him. He gives hugs and kisses and was so content to simply chillax on a bench with me, tail gently waving, stealing a kiss or two, or three. He’s such a nice, gentle boy – there’s an air about him – of acceptance, of kindness, of an ease with himself and people….that something something that I can’t put a finger on, but is just there. The friend that will always accept you for what you are, never be judgmental and always give you what you need. That’s Kenta and someone is going to be very lucky.
07/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Kenta pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Kenta was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in toys. Kenta did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog is active and focused on the Assessor and all other stimuli available. His body is soft, likely panting, likely to display high movement between attempts. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Kenta is sexually motivated and persists despite handler interruption.
07/05/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Kenta has only displayed highly sexually motivated behaviors around other dogs. It should be taken into consideration that Kenta is currently unaltered, althouhgh it can not be said for certain if and at what point altering will eventually deter any moutning behavior. At this time, Kenta should be given time to decompress as a single dog in a home, until his behavior around dogs can continue to be followed up on outside the shelter. 7/5: When off leash with other dogs, Kenta is sexually motivated and persists despite handler interruption. 7/7: Kenta continues to be sexually motivated and ignores correction as well as handler interruption. 7/8 update: Kenta, again, is sexually motivated and will persistently attempt to get to the helper dog even when she is hiding. 7/9 update: Kenta is sexually motivated and does not engage in play when solicited. 7/10: Kenta continues to be sexuallt motivated.
