06/27/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Kent is handsome and calm, its no wonder he’s won the affection of the ladies at the shelter (2 and 4 legged).. Kent has a girlfriend at the shelter her name is Shelby (A1075771) , they romp and play so nicely together; he gently wags his tail when he passes her kennel, how charming 🙂 Kent is a young energetic dog who loves to play but also sits nicely on the bench, smelling the fresh air and watching the birds. Kent likes other dogs as well, appears housebroken, is great on leash and sits when asked. How terrific is that!! So if your looking for a new buddy. Look no further Kent is ready and waiting. Please come to SIACC and meet him.
06/14/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Kent came into our center after he walked up to a member of the public in a park. He was nervous upon intake but allowed the handling. Kent was a bit hesitant to approach assessor upon first entering SAFER assessment area, but warmed up and allowed petting, soliciting attention and affection. Kent allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body soft and a bit distracted. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, ears back, mouth closed. Kent playfully ran and jumped along with assessor, jumped up playfully at end of game. He did not pull back his paw on both Squeeze attempts. Kent playfully engaged with Toy, took it away with soft body. When off leash with other dogs, Kent was loose, wiggly, and playful. The Behavior Team feels Kent would do best with an Experienced adopter. He would benefit from a slow approach/slow introduction so he can relax and warm up to new people. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed or back. Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Kent was loose, wiggly, and playful
