06/07/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Shy and sweet, if ever a dog was looking for a new friend, it’s Kelso! Too thin, a big raggedy around the edges, he’s happiest when snuggling close in my arms. Kelso was nervous on the street, tail tucked slightly, but when another volunteer and her dog joined us, Kelso happily walked along enjoying the company. He takes in his surroundings as we walk, stopping from time to time for a good look, but with kissy sounds and another tail wagging pup we continue on. In the park Kelso leans into me for cuddling, burying his head under my chin, and when I sit on a bench is happy when I lift him into my lap for more snuggles. He takes treats hungrily as he needs the food and is so about making friends with everyone, albeit shyly, my heart melts at the sight of him. Kelso has been invited into group sessions and does engage in play. Our behavior team feels that he will do well in a home with average dog experience. It won’t be hard to open your heart to this sweet dog who clearly hasn’t had the cushiest of homes until now. We’re rooting for him to have plentiful nutritious food, a soft bed to sleep on and wonderful humans to snuggle with. Is your heart big enough? Ask to meet him today! Another volunteer writes: Sweet and shyly friendly, Kelso is making progress! He’s gaining a bit of confidence, greeting new people with a shy tail wag and greeting other dogs with a happy tail wag. He’s a bit scared of the elevator, a box that moves can be scary, but with each passing day Kelso is learning more about the world. I gave Kelso a bath today and he was such a good boy — allowing me to wet him down, lather him up, hose him off and then, of course, the toweling-off massage part was heaven! Snuggling with his human is still his very favorite thing to do, but I think he would enjoy a home with another quiet dog to teach him how to be a dog. If your heart has room for a snuggly, shy and sweet little boy, Kelso is waiting to meet you.
