11/13/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Kelso is a stunning dog. He appears stern, imposing and strong in his kennel. Will we have a good time? Then, I remember:”Never judge a book by its cover”. Let’s give Kelso a chance… As I call his name, Kelso comes to his door. He is leashed easily and to the park we go at a good pace. He slightly marks his territory and meets in a very civil way other dogs, big and small, males and females. He has absolutely no interest in the birds or the rare squirrels we meet. Time for pictures ! I tether him to a bench, outfit him with a scarf and point the camera at him. Cool…Kelso, who appears a bit aloof , can take it. What a gorgeous dog! His facial features are strong but softened by his one blue eye. He gives me a smile…What a beautiful stance ! Well built, well nourished and such a great oat color coat. I wonder how many breeds lead to this masterpiece Kelso is. I decided to spend more time with him as I thought Kelso had more to disclose to me… Free in a pen away from distractions, Kelso, shed his “armor” and accepted caresses, scratches behind his ears and leaned against me. He let out a little whiny sound and fell slowly on his side , then on his back for belly rubs… Who would have thought… Kelso accepted then treats from my hand and even attempted at playing with the ball. May be in another session together or with another volunteer. I like Kelso and I certainly would love to spend more time with him. I hope his stay at the care center will bring out more of his qualities and will be short as my dream is to see him happy and loved with a new master or family. Come and meet Kelso at the Manhattan Care center
