A volunteer writes:  Keela is a little snowdrop sure to  make your heart flutter with her striking one blue eye. She is not shy. She knows her ways around people and dogs alike and makes the best  of  the enjoyable moment she has at the care center like playing excitedly with balls and toys or smooching with her caretaker. She walks nicely on the leash, does her business on the way, absolutely loves treats for which she sits obediently . Keela is a mature gal, delicious looking,  quite upbeat, social, playful and friendly and will make an absolutely wonderful friend and companion. Come and meet her at the Manhattan Care Center.

BEHAVIOR :

KNOWN HISTORY: None

Spayed, Stray

ASSESSMENT:

Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted

Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth.

Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft

Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back.

Squeeze 2:  1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back.

Toy: 1. No interest

Summary: Keela remained soft and social throughout the assessment, she displayed no concern.

DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT:

Selective: These dogs can succeed with certain other dogs, but may be more selective or picky. They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs.

PLAYGROUP:

Keela has remained tense and uncomfortable during interactions with other dogs in the care center.  The behavior department feels that Keela may be most comfortable meeting dogs on a one on one basis, at a slow pace.

2/2: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Keela greets with a tense body and raised hackles.  She maintains this posturing with repeated approach.

2/3: Keela is tense when being sniffted but will shake off and explore the yard once the greeter dog walks away.

2/4-2/7: Keela continues to exhibit these behaviors.

2/8: Keela is tense and avoidant of approach.

2/11: Keela is stiff upon initial greeting but will briefly bounce around the other dog in solicitation. She will then continue to wander the yard.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:

During her initial medical examination, Keela allowed all handling.

ENERGY LEVEL:

RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (Suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)

_X_No dog parks: Keela may be most comofrtable meeting dogs on a one on one basis.
