04/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Kay previously lived with 1 adult and another dog. There was limited information giving at this time. The owner stated Kay is house trained and he also got along well with the other dog in the house hold. At intake it was reported Kay was calm and allowed all handling. During SAFER Kay came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly, social and affectionate towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Kay was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Kay was easy to handle when engaged with the item. When allowed into the pen, Kay rushes the gate to greet the helper dog. His posture is tense and forward leaning, and he lunges and hard barks at her. The dogs were not introduced due to Kay’s behavior and the fact that our helper dog may not respond well to his behavior. Due to some concerns during dog to dog interaction, the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter and we recommend the only pet in the household. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: When allowed into the pen, Kay rushes the gate to greet the helper dog. His posture is tense and forward leaning, and he lunges and hard barks at her. The dogs were not introduced due to Kay’s behavior and the fact that our helper dog may not respond well to his behavior. We may attempt to muzzle him when we have a strong female helper dog.
