08/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Karma was difficult to remove from her kennel showing teeth, growling. Once she was removed from her kennel she walks with a low and fearful body language. This dog is under either social or environmental stress. Karma had a lowered body, ears back; she will freeze and give the whale eyes while gives a low growl when the handler tries to approach her. The behavior team decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Karma was not interested in toys. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Playgroup Notes: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Karma displays a nervous tense body and hard eye contact. She does not approach the helper dog and the helper dog will not approach her. Karma arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs. The behavior team feels that should be allowed time to acclimate to life outside the shelter and would be most comfortable doing so as the only resident dog.
