08/27/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
Basic information: Kanny is a 7 month old pit mix. She is being surrendered due to her family moving. Kanny has never seen a vet but owner has not noticed any apparent health issues. Socialization Kanny is very social around strangers. She has been around children and toddlers of all ages. She is very exuberant around all people and greets by jumping on top of people. Kanny has lived with her litter mate (another 7 month old pit mix) and they play very well with each other. Besides her sibling, Kanny has not interacted with other dogs. She will ignore them while walking down the street. She has never been introduced to cats Behavior Kanny will destroy household items when left alone. She had destroyed a couch, shoes, make up and anything that is not put away. She will not do this behavior when family is home. Since she eats all of her toys, she is only given greenies dental chews to play with. She is not afraid of loud noises. Kanny will let you take her food toys and treats away. She is well behaved during baths but will struggle to get away for nail trims. She barks when people approach the door but is wiggly when they come in. For a new family to know Kanny is described as friendly, playful, shy at times and excitable. She has a very high energy level. Her favorite activity is to sit on the bed and look out the window at the birds. She follows her family around the home. She is fed both wet and dry pedigree dog food and received 2-3 cups per day. She is trained to go to the bathroom outside and on wee wee pads. She will respond to the command sit when there are no distractions. She is exercised with long walks in the park. She pulls very hard on leash. She loves to sleep in the bed with her human. She has her own side of the bed with a pillow and will not sleep until she is tucked into the covers.

A volunteer writes: “She loves to sleep in the bed with her human. She has her own side of the bed with a pillow and will not sleep until she is tucked into the covers”. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww… Stunning puppy Kanny was surrendered to our care as her family is moving without her. Who is going to tuck her in at night? We’re told that she’s been around children and toddlers of all ages and is exuberant, sometimes jumping on people in greeting. She lived with her litter mate and played well, but had not been introduced to other dogs until joining us. Kanny doesn’t guard her things, is puppy energetic, and can be destructive when left alone. Puppy training, anyone? Kanny is a stunning little girl, well fed, her pristine white coat shines with good care, her eyes sparkle, she wags her tail at every dog we pass in the park, sits for treats and takes them gently, her leash manners are lovely and she’s all about being a puppy…as she should be! Puppies need structure, guidance, boundaries, exercise and love…to be everything they should be. In her first playdate with us, she mostly sought the attention of the handlers, offering strong correction to the helper dog. Of course, having lived with her litter mate as we were told, and never introduced to other dogs, any new interaction will take some time. Like human children, puppies want to learn, and look to us as their source of all things. She’s on her way to being an awesome adult dog and just needs the right person or family to guide her the rest of the way. And besides, she needs someone to tuck her in at night. And perhaps read her a bedtime story? Goodnight Moon. Come meet Kanny today.
08/28/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Kanny came into our center as an owner surrender citing moving issues. Owner reported she lived with her another similarly sized dog, her littermate. It is reported she has been around children and toddlers of all ages. Behavior around cats is unknown. Owner stated that Kanny will destroy household items when left alone and that she is not bothered if her food is taken away. Owner described her as friendly, playful, shy at times and excitable with a very high energy level. On her relief walk, she pulled a bit. In the assessment room she displayed a high level of energy, jumping around, and appeared friendly. She whined during Look and jumped up to lick the assessor’s face, tail wagging. For Sensitivity, she displayed high energy, jumping around, body soft. During Tag she became excited, vocalized, and jumped up on the assessor. She did not pull back her paw on either Squeeze attempt. Kanny displayed minimal interest in the Toy, sniffing it. When approaching another dog on leash at the care center, Kanny approaches with tail above spine level, body not stiff. The Behavior Team recommends that Kanny be placed in and Average home. She would benefit from positive reinforcement training to teach her basic manners and not to jump. Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back, whining. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. Her body is soft, panting, jumps up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Vocalized and jumps on assessor. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog sniffs toy. Dog to Dog: When approaching another dog on leash at the care center, Kanny approaches with tail above spine level, body not stiff.
08/29/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Kanny’s previous owner cites “Kanny has lived with her litter mate (another 7 month old pit mix) and they play very well with each other. Besides her sibling, Kanny has not interacted with other dogs.” When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Kanny mostly seeks human interaction, and offers strong defensive correction when approached face to face. Based on Kanny’s owner surrender information the behavior department recommends a pre-adoptin interaction as well as allowing Kanny time to acclimate to her new environment before doing slow, structured introductions with the resident dog.
