Socialization:
Around strangers Kane is very friendly/outgoing. He hasn’t lived with other animals but is friendly and gentle, exuberant, respectful and very playful when playing with adults. Owner stated that Kane is excitable around other dogs and would pull towards other dogs during walks; they haven’t let him get close. Kane hasn’t bitten/scratched any person or animal.
Behavior:
During storms/fireworks Kane will not react and/or bark, he would simply retreat into the apartment. He isn’t bothered if you take his food/food, toys/treats away or touched/moved. Kane will struggle to get away. He loves to take baths and is not bothered when roused while sleeping/resting. If someone approaches the home/family member Kane will excitedly bark & jump on them to greet them & play.
For A New Family to Know:

Owner likes the fact that Kane loves belly rubs, is very loyal and loves to cuddle and watch TV with her. Kane enjoys playing with ball, squeaky, rope toys and games of fetch & tug. He’s mostly an indoor only dog who sleeps on his dog bed/owners bed & is walked twice a day. Kane is housebroken and never had accidents He’s well behaved when left home alone and hasn’t been in a crate since he was a puppy. He eats both dry and wet dog food (Alpo) 2-3x a day and knows the commands are “sit”, “stay”, “come.”

A volunteer writes: Kane is a very handsome fellow, so majestic with his perfectly cropped ears and in his silvery well groomed coat. He looks healthy and the perfect weight. There seemed to be two Kanes when I took him out yesterday. The serious, aloof, distracted, hard-to-reach one and the fun and pleasant to be with, inter-active gent he became after a while spent together. Day and night. Kane was owned since tender puppy hood and surrendered for no time after the arrival of a human first born. Kane had to go. Kane came with excellent comments that would make a new owner want to have him as a pet. His person liked how friendly and smart he was. Here at the care center, Kane is well mannered, a bit distant at first, then sociable, friendly and even affectionate, taking pleasure in the company of the humans he is with.He loves to be petted, likes treats for which he jumps or sits and wags his tail a lot. He is a good walker, is clearly house trained with some marking and does pull toward or is very aware of the presence of other dogs. No aggression was ever noted by any of us volunteers walking him in the street. In the one playgroup he attended with his peers, he played briefly with a friendly female and offered a strong correction when another male became too pushy with him. Kane is a middle aged gentleman, a family dog with set habits and rules. Changes are always difficult and stressful. Slow introductions will be needed if there is to be another dog in his adoptive or foster home. Kane is really a very nice dog, worth to look into, get to know and take home as a loyal and loving forever best friend. Kane is at the Manhattan Care Center. Come and meet him soon.
