KNOWN HISTORY: None 3/1/17 Unaltered Female, Stray Other notes: Upon intake Kale had a loose wiggly body, she allowed all handling. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 3/3/17 Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is between her legs, body a bit tense with her mouth closed. Tag:1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog freezes and tries to bite. Toy: 1. No interest. Summary: Kale was timid but a bit social towards the assessor with a slow approach. PLAYGROUP: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Kale displays neutral body language as he greets a novel male dog. She displays slight assertive posturing, standing tall and walking behind the male dog. She chooses to walk away and keeps to herself for the remainder of the session. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 3/2/17 During her medical examination, Kale was approachable and allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: Kale display a low activity level in the care center. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13): Due to how uncomfortable Kale is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Due to the warning and distance-increasing behaviors shown in the care center, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide force free behavior modification. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Kale has displayed fearful behavior in shelter, she displays a bit of social behavior towards handlers though attempts to increase distance and avoid contact when made uncomfortable. Kale has displayed all appropriate warning signals when uncomfortable and has escalated to snapping.
