Here at the Care Centers, Kahlua muzzle punches the gate when greeting at the gate. After a muzzle is placed on her, she leans forward and tenses her posture. Due to these behaviors the Behavior Department recommends that Kahlua be the only resident dog at this time. 2/16: When off leash at the Care Center, Kahlua anxiously approaches the gate. She hard barks then muzzle punches it, when the novel male dog greets her. Due to this initially greet, a muzzle is placed on her as a precaution. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below)
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: Single-pet home,Recommend no dog parks
Recommendations comments:: _X_ Single-pet home/Recommend no dog parks: Due to the concerning behaviors that kahlua has shown during playgroup, we feel that Kahlua should not visit dog parks and be the only resident dog. The Behavior Department recommends that she be socialized in a more controlled setting until her behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help Kahlua associate dogs with things she enjoys like toys or treats.
Potential challenges: : House soiling
Potential challenges comments:: Kahlua is reported to have frequent accidents in the house, and appears not to have been housetrained in the past. She will need guidance and consistency to learn to eliminate outside. We recommend crate training (the crate must be made positive and never used as a punishment), frequent walks, rewards for eliminating outside (treats, toys, games), consistent feeding schedule, and careful monitoring when inside. Accidents should never be punished as it can damage the human-dog relationship and is likely to make the problem worse.
