Hello, my name is Jusky. My animal id is #18092. I am a male black dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 11 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 11-Jan-2018, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving – out of country.
Jusky is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, which is contagious to other dogs. Behaviorally, we suggest that Jusky would be best suited to a dog experienced home.

[Spay/Neuter Waiver – Age] It is the policy of ACC not to perform surgery on any animal over the age of 8-10 years due to the higher risks incurred in a shelter setting. The veterinarian is hereby issuing a permanent spay/neuter waiver, from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY due to the estimated age of this animal. ACC does recommend you consult with your veterinarian to determine if surgical sterilization is appropriate.

Summary:: The previous owner of Jusky did not report previous behavior around dogs. In the care center, Jusky has interacted politely with calm dogs, though has displayed the potential to become aroused by and eventually uncomfortable with play. The behavior department recommends allowing Jusky time to decompress outside the care center before immediate introduction to unfamiliar dogs. Future introductions to dogs should be conducted at a slow pace to respectful, non playful dogs.

Summary (2):: 1/13: Jusky greets a calm female dog politely and wanders the pen. He becomes very aroused by running play in a neighboring pen and is difficult to remove from the yard area.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below)
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Potential challenges: : Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: Jusky’s previous owner reported that he was scared of cars and mostly went out in the back yard. At the car center, he has appeared very fearful at times when outside. Guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is recommended to work with Jusky on walking on leash outside. He should never pulled outside or forced to walk when uncomfortable. Positive reinforcement, force-free training only should be used.
