07/06/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I’m over the moon for Jupiter! Sure, his age shows a bit: half of his head looks sort of caved in and he can be wobbly on his paws, but with those little legs and that smile, I don’t think he could be much cuter! He’s definitely not too old to love going for walks; he wags his tail throughout, and has the nose of a hound. He takes treats nicely, seems to have housetraining, and has been friendly to every person we’ve encountered. When I take him in the yard, he likes to explore, but settles at my feet and ends up on his back soon after I start petting him. He enjoys belly rubs…until he hears the sound of a staff member rinsing something off with a hose! Jupiter LOVES water and “catching” the stream from the hose. It is the most endearing thing ever, and watching him could put a smile on my face even on the gloomiest of days. Jupiter could be the brightest spot in your universe for the rest of his days…he’d love to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!
07/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jupiter was brought into the shelter on 7/5/16. Jupiter has no reported behavior history in a home. At intake it was stated Jupiter was relaxed and allowed all handling. During SAFER Jupiter slowly and calmly walked into the assessment room. Jupiter had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Jupiter was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Jupiter was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Jupiter appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, smells, then turns away. Dog-Dog:When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Jupiter greets the other dog displaying soft body language. He is sexually motivated and attempts to mount the female greeter dog.
