09/06/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/06/16 13:27 Juniper was found on the street and brought in by police. He was crying in the crate he was brought in and would sniff counselor’s hands through the crate. When taken out of the crate, he had loose body and wagging tail. He leaned against counselor’s legs and allowed for petting and collaring. He had a chain that was on very tight and allowed counselor to touch his neck and pull on the chain while attempting to get it off. He listened when counselor told him to sit and come.
09/09/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I’ve never seen a dog with quite the same seductive good looks as amber-eyed Juniper and his mysterious heritage is just as intriguing as his handsome face…Shepherd-Pittie-Husky mix perhaps? Whatever his stats, Juni never looks anything less than 100 percent fabulous. Despite that feminine name, he is definitely a beautiful young BOY! Bouncy and full of rough’n’tumble fun but always affectionately friendly and outgoing, everyone and everything he sees is met with the exact same level of enthusiasm, as he pulls hard to get close to new doggie friends or just to find an intriguing scent up ahead in the park. A harness-style leash calms him down and sets him (literally) straight, so maybe there really is some Husky up his family tree, and he’s a sled dog at heart? Juni’s still on a learning curve when it comes to commands, but seems to be house trained, knows how to wait for treats and take them nicely, and always comes quickly when called. After our photo shoot, he’s happy to trot along at my side with his tongue out and a smile set to stun, and I definitely catch a few admiring looks from passersby as we make our way back to the Care Center. But Juni is more than just a pretty face. Adopt him for your active family and you’ll soon discover that the best thing about hanging out with him (other than his patented stand-up hugs) is seeing the world through what I like to call ‘amber-colored glasses’. Everything is fresh and exciting when you’re with Juniper. Welcome him into your life and you’ll wake up to a new adventure every day!
09/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Juniper walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Juniper followed the assessor at the end of the leash grabbing at the leash (play growl) with a calm and relaxed body when playing tag and was not difficult to distract. He took the toy away but had soft body language. Juniper did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, eras relaxed, grabbing at the leash (played growl) but was not difficult to distract. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup notes: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Juniper is sexually motivated and does not reciprocate with play The behavior team feels that Junier should require pre adoption interaction and slow introductions before being adopted to a home with resident dogs. Juniper arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs, and it is unknown how his behavior will translate into a home setting.
