02/11/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/11/17 17:48 Basic Information Juicy is an 8 year old male Shih Tzu mix. Owner is surrendering him because she is having surgery and has many health issues that prevent her from taking care of her pet. She adopted Juicy from a friend 8 years ago. Owner stated Juicy has cherry eyes and last saw a vet back in 2013. Socialization Juicy is shy around strangers but once he gets to know you he opens up. He has spent time with kids ages 3 and up. Owner stated he is playful with kids he knows. He plays in an exuberant manner with adults and kids. He spent time with a 5 year old female Pit Bull. They were playful and tolerant with each other. He lived with a cat. He was playful with this cat. He has never bitten a person or animal. Behavior Owner stated Juicy tends to pee anywhere in the house but poops outside. He hides and barks at thunder. He does not guard food, treats of any kind, and he does not play with toys. He tolerates most handling. He is afraid of bath time and will try to flee or move around a lot. Owner has never trimmed his nails. He will bark if someone knocks on the door but is not bothered if someone unfamiliar approaches his owner. For a New Family to Know Juicy is friendly, affectionate, and playful with people he knows. He has a very high energy level. He will follow his owner around when home. He does not play with toys but loves to play chase. He was kept indoors only and slept on his own pillow bed. Owner fed him wet food only, mighty dog chicken flavor only. He was given one can twice a day. He is mostly house-trained. He will poop anywhere outside but tends to pee indoors. He has never been crated or left alone in a yard. He knows the command sit. For exercise he goes on slow walks. He pull hard and is never walked off the leash. Behavior during Intake Juicy tolerated most handling. When the owner first left I was able to pick him up, place him on the counter, collar him, and take his photo. I then placed him on the ground and when I went to adjust his leash he snapped at my hand.

ENERGY LEVEL: Juicy’s previous describes him as having a very high energy level. In the care center, he has displayed a moderate level of activity. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Previous owner stated that Juicy was shy with new people and he lunged and the medical staff at the care center. It is important to always go slow and give Juicy the option to walk away from any social interaction. Juicy should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Juicy’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Juicy would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings.)
