A Little Bit About Me…

A volunteer writes: Juggernaut of X-Men fame was a huge, overwhelming source of strength lucky for me, this Juggernaut is much gentler! Juggernaut pulls a little bit on the leash, but is very responsive to whoever is walking him, seems very curious about other dogs, and loves to explore all the sights, smells, and sounds that he can. I can’t believe this boy is really 8 years old! He seems like a much younger dog, with the vigor and energy of a young buck. Juggernaut seems housetrained (waiting until we’re outside to do his business), loves to go for walks, and is a confident, adventurous boy. If you’re looking for an adventure-buddy who has passed his puppy days but still has lots of energy, come and meet Juggernaut today!

Let’s get to know each other a bit more…

Basic Information:
Juggs is an 8 year old, brown and white, medium mixed breed male who was not neutered prior to coming into the shelter. He has no known health issues or injuries and last saw a vet a year ago. He was an owner surrender due to the owner moving to a location that does not allow pets.

Previously lived with:  In home with owner
How is this dog around strangers?  Juggs is very friendly and outgoing when meeting new people. He approaches and loves being pet and rubbed.
How is this dog around children?  Juggs has interacted with children before and is relaxed and playful around them.
How is this dog around other dogs?  Juggs has lived with other large breed dogs before and was relaxed and playful with them. He is unpredictable when meeting novel dogs and needs to be introduced properly and slowly.
How is this dog around cats?  Juggs has not lived with cats before but his owner stated that he chases cats and other small animals outside. He stated he does not trust Juggs to live in a household with cats.
Resource guarding:  Jugsg has no resource guarding behavior.
Bite history:  Juggs has no bite history with humans, and one year ago when he got out of his yard he got into an altercation with a neighborhood dog.
Housetrained:  Partially
Energy level/descriptors:  Medium to High

Other Notes:  Juggs is not bothered if he is pushed off the furniture or disturbed while sleeping. His owner has been able to bathe him, brush him but not trim his nails. He does not alert bark when someone approaches the house or yard.
Has this dog ever had any medical issues?  No

For a New Family to Know:
Juggs is described as being friendly, affectionate and playful. He likes to play with rope toys and enjoys running around and playing tug. He has been an indoor dog, sleeps on his dog bed, and eats dry food. He is partially house trained to go outside but has occasional accidents in the house. He is well behaved when left alone in the house or outside fenced in yard. He knows the command sit and walks on leash for exercise.

Behavior Notes:  Juggs was very friendly with a loose, wiggly body. He was licking counselor and seeking attention.

Details on my behavior are…

Date of assessment:  30-Jan-2018
Look:  2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity:  1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth.
Tag:  1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins.
Paw squeeze 1:  1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw.
Paw squeeze 2:  1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw.
Toy:  1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you.
Summary:  Juggernaut is playful, and relaxed. He displayed no concerning behavior during his assessment.
Summary (1):  According to Juggernaut’s previous owner, Juggernaut lived with other large breed dogs before and was relaxed and playful with them. He is wary when meeting novel dogs and needs to be introduced properly and slowly.
1/27: When off leash at the Care Centers, Juggernaut greets the helper dog intensely and immediately becomes sexually motivated. He leans forward with a tense posture and quickly circles around her when she attempts to move away.
Date of intake:  26-Jan-2018
Summary:  Juggs was very friendly with a loose, wiggly body. He was licking counselor and seeking attention.
Date of initial:  26-Jan-2018
Summary:  very friendly, wiggly and exam difficult but enjoys being scratched and handled.

ENERGY LEVEL:  Juggernaut displays a medium to low energy level in the care center.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:  EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below)
Behavior Asilomar
TM – Treatable-Manageable

Recommendations:  No cats; Single-pet home; Recommend no dog parks
Recommendations comments:  No cats: Juggernaut has shown an intense focus on cats and as a result poses a potential safety risk for cats. She must not go to a home with resident cats or where she may come into contact with cats.

Potential challenges comments:

Other: Owner reported Juggernaut will chase other small animals when outside. For these reasons we advise against a home with small pets at this time, and slow introductions should be done with large breed dogs.
