06/22/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Joy continues to show social behavior with humans and does not display any behavioral concerns outside of playgroup. However, due to the behavior we have observed during playgroup sessions, the Behavior Team feels that she is suitable for an “experienced” adopter who can manage her dog reactivity. Please see GROUPBEHAVIOR memos for more details. SAFER 6/18/16: Joy came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Joy was friendly and allowed all handling. During SAFER Joy came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly, social and playful towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Joy joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Joy was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Joy appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. Her body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy.
06/19/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Joy was brought in as a stray with her two puppies so her behavior with other adult dogs is unknown. When off leash with other dogs, Joy displays concerning behaviors. She rushes in the pen with a stiff body, growling and barking. She lunges at the greeter dogs. Due to this behavior, the Behavior Department recommends that Joy not be placed in a home with other dogs at this time. 6/19: Joy approaches the gate with a very tense, high posture and immediately lunges, bares teeth and barks at the helper dog. She was not let in due to this behavior and will be muzzled tomorrow when we try again. 6/20: Joy was muzzled today before interacting with the helper dog. Once let into the pen, she rushed the gate and froze. We did allow her to enter the adjacent pen and she again rushed towards the helper dog. She was growling the whole time and attempted to leap onto the other dog’s shoulders. The interaction was ended.
