“Awww…so sweet!” Get used to hearing that refrain when you’re out and about with Joss. “Sweet” certainly isn’t the most interesting word but it’s really all that springs to mind when talking (thinking? dreaming??) about Joss. First there’s her cow-print coat. Yep we’ve a miniature Holstein in our midst and at 42 lbs she is firmly of the “pocket” variety. Then there’s her speckled nose which she wields like an adorable weapon, sweetly (there’s that word again) tilting it up at you as she sits patiently for her treats. And then, of course, there are her ears. Like two sweethearts leaning in just moments before a kiss, they wiggle as she listens perking up at words she knows (“treats” is one). On a stroll to the park Joss stays right by my side taking in every sight and sound with just a flip of the head. She tends to business right away and then contentedly sits at my feet as we watch a Sunday unfold in the city. I find a soft spot behind her right ear and begin to scratch as Joss spots a mother kneeling to zip up her daughter’s coat nearby. She watches them closely, so closely that I begin to wonder if she’s seen that happen before, maybe many times? Maybe every day. And the thought of that is so sweet, and a bit sad, that it sticks in my head like a song. “Awww…SO sweet!” A couple strolls by our bench and smiles down at our girl still staring off into the distance. And there it is again. Joss is waiting (sweetly) at Manhattan’s ACC.
BEHAVIOR:
Joss pulls a bit on the leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Joss was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Joss was not interested in toys
Joss did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture.
Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, may have long lip or lip lick.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.
Toy 1: No interest.
Playgroup Notes:
When off leash with other dogs, Joss engages in soft play with a female dog. She licks her muzzle and offers spins when soliciting.

5/13 update:
Joss is a bit frantic in the yard. She is submissive when greeted but will approach to sniff when the other dogs walk away.
5/16 update:
Joss displays assertive body posture when greeting a younger, male dog. She postures to mount him while tense and vocalizing. When the other dog attempts to solicit, she runs along after him, body still a bit tense.
