09/11/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Josie might have something in her belly that doesn’t belong, but her heart is definitely in the right place…what a sweetheart!! She solicits attention from her cage and it’s impossible to resist that googly eyed face. She has good leash manners, steadily wags her tail throughout our time together and is just really easy company! She snubbed my crunchy treats but eagerly sat and began offering me both paws when I brought out the good stuff. She’s very attentive and though our time together was short, I felt like we were old friends. She is a special girl looking for a special person to give her the care she needs…please come see her at Brooklyn ACC!
09/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Josie came into the Care Center as a stray after being found on the street, Josie’s past behaviors in a home are unknown: Behavior during intake: Josie was friendly and allowed all handling from the counselor. During SAFER Josie came into the assessment room calm and relaxed she had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, she allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Josie was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Josie was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Josie appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Playgroup:When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Josie greets the other dog, standing tall. She mostly ignores the male greeter dog and explores the pen, seeking handler interaction.
