Medical Summary scan neg ~10yrs, male intact, bsc 4/9 barh. attention seeking, allowed all handling (except around mouth). interested in food but ate little. severe dental disease, missing most teeth, remaining teeth are loose with severe tartar and gingivitis, painful, nuclear sclerosis ou, no ocular or nasal discharge, ears wnl, enlarged mandibular lymph nodes normal thoracic auscultation; normal abdominal palpation ~1.5cm open wound at right side of face between maxilla and right eye in region of pre-molars, no other wounds or injuries noted, slightly stiff gait in hind end, minimal laxity in patellas noted a: geriatric, dental disease, wound on face – rule out ruptured tooth root abscess vs other p: rec clindamycin 2.6ml po q12 x 10 days and buprenex 0.1ml sq q12 x 5 days. rec full geriatric work up and dental with extractions with placement. good short term prognosis

3/26/16 : S/O: VET CHECK TO MONITOR COMFORT/APPETITE. QAR ON PRESENTATION; PATIENT HAD NOT APPEARED TO EAT OVERNIGHT; ADMINISTERED BUPRENEX EARLIER IN THE MORNING; NO DISCHARGE OOZING FROM THE ORALCAVITY – PRE-MOLARS AND MOLARS ON THE LEFT UPPER ARCADE APPEAR TO BE MISSING; DIFFICULT TO SEE DENTITION ON THE RIGHT UPPER ARCADE DUE TO PATIENT’S BEHAVIOR. BUT APPEARS TO HAVE SEVERE PERIODONTAL DISEASE WITH GINGIVAL RECESSION. NOSIGNIFICANT PERI-OCULAR SWELLING, HOWEVER LARGE SCABBED OVER WOUND JUST VENTRAL/ROSTRAL TO THE RIGHT EYE. WHEN RIGHT UPPER LIP WAS RAISED PURULENT DISCHARGE BEGAN OOZING FROM WOUND. A: SUSPECT TOOTH ROOT ABSCESS; PX: FAIR TO GOOD WITH TREATMENT. P: PATIENT LICKED BABY FOOD OFF OF TONGUE DEPRESSOR. CONTINUE TO MONITOR WHILE IN BACC – MAY NEED FORCE FEEDING IF CONTINUES TO NOT EAT. RECHECK APPETITE TOMORROW
PROFILE :
BASIC INFORMATION: Jojo is a black, male short hair 7yr old Chihuahua. He was given to owner 2 years ago and has a possible infection on his eye/mouth area. Jojo was surrendered to ACC due to financial & pet health issues.
SOCIALIZATION: Jojo is very friendly & social around strangers. He allows strangers to come up to him and pet him. Jojo has resided with children, ages 1-7yrs old. Jojo is very tolerant of child play & plays gently with children & adults. Jojo has not resided with other pets & when he is walked and comes across other dogs, he will growl and bark. Jojo has not been exposed to cats or other animals. Jojo has not bitten or scratched another animal or person within the past 10 days.
BEHAVIOR: Jojo allows owner to touch him while he is eating from food bowl, Jojo also allows owner to take away items from his mouth. Jojo enjoys bathing & grooming. Jojo barks when someone unfamiliar approaches the home in order to alert owner someone is outside.
FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW: Jojo is best described as a friendly, affectionate & playful dog. His activity level is medium & he loves to take brisk walks at the park & outside. When owner comes home, he will follow owner around the home. He has been kept mainly indoors & loves to sleep on a dog bed in his owners room. Jojo enjoys eating wet food from brand Pedigree 2X daily. Jojo enjoys Milk bones as treats. He is house trained & is well behaved when left alone in the home. Jojo has never been crate trained & is familiar with the command sit.
BEHAVIOR UPON INTAKE: Jojo came into facility with a loose body & wagging tail. jojo greeted counselors very nicely and allowed all handling. Scanned negative.
