07/20/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Johnny Rod is quite a good name for our hairy little guy here at the care center. Just like the artist…he owns quite an incredible mane. I always was told to be wise around Lhasas, and even more when their behavior on arrival is not so “hot”. JR is making sweet eyes at me. He also tilts his head in various directions. He really wants my attention…and it works. I open his kennel. He is in my arms in no time. JR is a dream on the leash although he walks like on eggs. He relieves himself in one stop. He comes when I call him and rolls on his back for intense belly rubs and petting. He takes treats gently from my hands. He is a wonderful lap dog and the sweetest chap on earth. JR won my heart. Johnny Rod is a middle-aged gentleman found as a stray, not much cared for because of unknown reasons to us, but is a gentle, friendly, sociable and very affectionate chap who will make an amazing companion to the new owner or family who will adopt him. Come and meet him soon at the Manhattan Care Center. He is a real diamond.
07/17/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Johnny Rod came into our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. He was friendly upon intake and allowed all handling. Johnny Rod walked nicely on leash for his relief walk. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, relaxed, lip lick. Johnny Rod stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft, mouth closed, ears and tail neutral. He followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, but stopped following mid way through, unresponsive to touch. Due to Johnny Rod’s severely matted legs, the paw Squeeze was skipped and item was conducted using Flank. Johnny Rod had no response to both Flank Squeezes. He showed minimal interest in Toy. When off leash with other dogs Johnny Rod greets politely then explores the yard. The Behavior Team feels Johnny Rod would do well with an Average adopter. He will require regularly scheduled professional grooming appointments, approximately every 3-4 months, to keep his coat mat and tangle free. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, but stops following mid game. He is unresponsive to touch. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Johnny Rod greets politely then explores the yard.
