03/07/16 17:48 Basic Info: Johnnie A1066928 is a 4yr old neutered male light brown AMPBT mix who was given to owner from a family member & is being surrendered due to the owner’s personal problems. He was last seen by a veterinarian in 2015 for his neuter procedure and currently has some skin issues which haven’t been examined. Socialization: Around strangers Johnnie is friendly/outgoing. He’s lived with an 8yr old and was gentle, exuberant, relaxed & playful also with the adults in the home. Johnnie hasn’t lived with other animals but barks and lunges towards dogs he sees on the street. Johnnie has never bitten/scratched any person or animal. Behavior: The following hasn’t been done to Johnnie to know how he would react: having his food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved, being disturbed while sleeping/resting, having his nails trimmed or being brushed. Johnnie struggles to get away during baths. If someone approaches the home/family member Johnnie isn’t bothered. The owner stated he’s very protective of women. For A New Family to Know: Johnnie is friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, excitable & independent with a low-high activity level. The owner likes how friendly he is. Johnnie enjoys playing with ball, squeaky & rope toys along with games of fetch & tug. Johnnie is mostly an indoor only dog who sleeps on the floor & is walked 1-2x a day where he pulls sometimes on his leash. Johnnie eats dry dog food 2x a day and likes any kind of dog treats. He will have accidents in the home if someone takes too long to take him out. Johnnie’s known commands are “sit”, “stay” & “come”. Intake Behavior: Johnnie allowed all handling. He allowed to be scanned (-), collared & taken pictures of. Johnnie was a calm boy who was coaxed into a kennel with food and some liver treats.
03/13/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Here comes the sun! Wherever Johnnie goes he brings happiness and light and if you prefer the kind of morning pick-me-up that arrives in a lush fur coat rather than a Starbucks cup then he’s the boy for you. Johnnie is a seasoned family dog and he makes for a delightfully grateful and enthusiastic date, all hugs, kisses and beaming smiles. As soon as he sees the leash he gets up on his hind legs to do a little happy dance–too cute! He’s a calm boy in harness, seemingly very house trained, and other than some pulling and vocalizing when we pass other dogs it’s all smooth sailing as we slowly make our way down the street. Very responsive to my voice and quick to obey commands for ‘come’, ‘sit’ and ‘stay’, Johnnie eagerly (but gently) snarfles down handfuls of ham like it was going out of fashion. Wonderful as he is with people, he has shown some discomfort in a playgroup setting and as he’s unused to socializing with other pups, slow and steady introductions are a must when meeting new four-legged friends. Sweet Johnnie is already neutered and has lived and played gently with an 8-year-old child, he’d make the perfect sidekick for almost any family and has a great behavior evaluation to prove it, too. Another volunteer writes: Friendly and sweet, Johnnie has amazing eyes that make soft contact as we get to know one another. He’s a little too thin but wears a lush coat and loves to be petted. As I run my hands down his body I find that “sweet spot” that gets his back leg jumping and it’s adorable!!! Surrendered by his family due to their “personal problems”, we’re told that Johnnie lived with a young child and was gentle, is friendly and outgoing to strangers, is housetrained when walked regularly, isn’t fond of baths, and loves playing with balls and toys. Johnnie is a bit jumpy in his ‘how do you do’ greeting but it’s all fun and friendship so a little training not to jump will go a long way. On our walk his first priority was going potty, confirming that he’s housetrained, and we walked and wagged our way to the park, Johnnie wagging his tail at every dog we passed on the way. Johnnie didn’t have dog socialization in his previous home, so is learning his manners with us, and in group sessions can still be a bit pushy in play. He’s smart, he’ll figure it out. His owners report he hasn’t lived with other animals but barks and lunges towards dogs he sees on the street. The behavior department reccommends Johnnie does not go to a home with other dogs at this time until his behaviors can be followed up on.
