06/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
JoeJoe came to us as a stray so we don’t have any behavior information other than what has been observed in shelter environment. In the kennel JoeJoe appears to be highly anxious and frustrated constantly jumping wildly while in his kennel. Once out of his kennel JoeJoe pulls strongly on the leash but has soft body language. He was very interested in interacting with the assessor when entering the behavior and would jump up on the assessor a bit strongly during the assessment. JoeJoe allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items while maintaining soft body language. He was distracted during the tag interaction and more focused on other objects in the behavior room. He took the toy item away with a firm grip and soft body language. He would move his body or place it between the assessor and the toy as the assessor attempted to take it. Due to JoeJoe’s playgroup notes we recommend he be placed with an new hope partner at this time. Please view playgroup notes for more information. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, and open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needs coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness.
06/09/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When introduced to a dog through a fence, Joe Joe stiffens, charges the gate, and emits high-pitched vocalizations. When the helper dog is removed out of his sight, Joe Joe continues to vocalize, run throughout the pens, and attempt to jump and scale the fence. Due to the intensity and concern raised during the initially greeting through the fence, a basket muzzle is applied to Joe Joe for safety. When introduced off-leash, Joe Joe runs after, charges at the helper dog while snapping. His body is tense, hackles raised, ears foward, with dilated pupils. Joe Joe does not vocalize at this point and is difficult to distract. His leash is picked up by a handler to remove him from the pen, while Joe Joe continues to pull toward the other dog. When removed from the pen, he remains intensely fixated until the helper dog is removed from the yard. The behavior department strongly advises against placing Joe Joe with other dogs. Future owners should remain vigilant and exercise caution when walking him outdoors or in places where other dogs may be present. It is likely that the behaviors observed are driven by predatory urges and will require extensive maintenence to ensure that his behavior around other dogs is safely managed.
