A volunteer writes:

Are we also housing bears at the Manhattan Care Center? Joe certainly looks like one with his little dark ears, beady eyes and the large fluffy mane framing his face…He is quite a beauty , a likely cross between a Chow and a Belgian Malinois, healthy looking, beautifully dressed and combining the physical traits of both breeds. Joe is a little stressed. I caught him at the beginning of his stay at our facility and I need to see a bit more of him..He is eager to come out of his den, walks quite well on the leash and marks his new territory. He incontestably has an eye for the ladies, big or small but otherwise does not show much interest in other dogs and does not chase pigeons or squirrels. I can say that he acts aloof but he is part Chow and out of place in an environment that is not his.  He sits obediently on command, poses for pictures but barks at some people insistently trying to engage him and break our peace. He does settle next to my feet and accepts caresses. His coat is so thick and feels so soft and silky. No matting in sight. Joe looks at me in agreement, still with a serious look on his face. We do not know much about Joe except that he was found as a stray and that he has been well cared for. I doubt he is a dog for everyone around but lovers of the both breeds he is “made of” will certainly appreciate his beauty and understand his needs, likes and dislikes. In the right hands, Joe could be an awesome forever best friend. Come and meet him soon at the Manhattan Care Center.
