05/09/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/09/16 12:22 BASIC INFO Jo is a 5 year old spayed mixed breed dog, possibly Australian Cattle Dog / APBT. Her owner adopted her from ACC when she was a puppy and had to surrender her due to cost, his declining health, and lack of time. SOCIALIZATION Jo is friendly/outgoing with new people. She’s relaxed, playful, and tolerant with children who visit. She plays exuberantly with people. She lived with a larger, older female dog in the past. She was relaxed with her and would initiate play. The other dog usually growled at her and Jo gave her space. Outside, she approaches, sniffs, and plays exuberantly with other dogs. She backs up if they growl at her. She chases cats outside. She’s never bit anyone. BEHAVIOR Jo doesn’t mind storms. She doesn’t mind when someone takes food or treats from her, holds/restrains her, or wakes her up. She’s nervous during baths. She’s friendly with strangers who approach her home/family. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Jo’s family describes her as friendly, affectionate, playful, and medium-high energy. She follows her family around. She played chase. She lived inside. She ate dry Purina and Alpo foods. She’s housetrained, doesn’t have accidents, and potties anywhere outside. She was kept in a crate while home alone and during the night. She rested and was well-behaved in her crate. She was left alone in the backyard with a 4′ chain link fence and was well-behaved. She went for brisk walks and sometimes pulled on her leash. INTAKE Jo had a soft, slightly low body, open mouth, and somewhat low wagging tail during intake. She lowered her head while we scanned (+) and collared her and while I switched her leashes but her tail continued wagging. Jo walked with us on her leash without pulling. She sniffed treats but didn’t eat them.
05/15/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: “With her tail-a-thumpin’ as I approached her cage, I knew Jo was looking for some fun! She went to the bathroom as soon as we hit the street and off we went for a stroll around the park. She heeled nicely for most of the walk. She got startled once when I petted her unexpectedly. I went more slowly and scratched her under the chin afterwards and she seemed to prefer that! She was nervous at first. But once I earned her trust, she was a real sweetheart!” A volunteer adds: Jo is a great trooper! Adopted from us as a tiny puppy and now back at the age of 5 as her owners can not afford a pet anymore… She has been beautifully cared for and looks like a spring chick ready for all adventures. We are told that she is good with children, dogs( she even was very sweet to a grumpy female she used to live with) and very welcoming of strangers. A playful gal, loving and well mannered..In other words, a GOOD family dog ! Jo does not echo barking pooches in her quarters. Her eyes tell me that she wants out. She is a silent “beggar”. She pulls slightly on the leash and free in a pen, literally dances for treats. She does not need pushing to come on the lap. She knows the drill and what pet lovers want… Jo is one lively female, a true spirit who deserves once again to be someone’s pet, forever this time. Come and meet her soon at the Manhattan Care Center..

05/10/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Jo has mostly been avoidant of interaction, only briefly engaging in soft play before becoming overwhelmed at times. Previous owner cites “She lived with a larger, older female dog in the past. She was relaxed with her and would initiate play. The other dog usually growled at her and Jo gave her space. Outside, she approaches, sniffs, and plays exuberantly with other dogs. She backs up if they growl at her”. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction and slow introductions for Jo before placement in a home with another dog. When off leash with other dogs, Jo engages in soft play. She offers correction when solicited by a pushier dog. 5/11 update: Jo is a bit avoidant of interaction and overwhelmed in a larger group. 5/12 update: Jo allows greeting, however hides behind handlers when other dogs attempt to solicit. 5/13 update: Jo initially only hide behind the handlers legs. She gets more comfortable the longer she is out and begins to approach the other dogs to sniff. When solicited play she becomes tense and escalates, barking and growling but is easily separated and de-escalated. 5/14 update: Jo engages in some brief play with a calm male. She spends a majority of her time outside seeking attention form handlers.
