07/05/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
7/5/16 13:28 Basic information: Jin was brought in as a stray. The finder found him on the street, the finder brought Jin home for 3 weeks then brought him to the shelter. The finder stated that Jin does not like other small dogs and will growl, barks and tries to lunge at them. Jin was fed name brand dry dog food twice a day. No other information could be provided during intake. Intake Behavior: During intake Jin was relaxed with lose body. When another dog came to the lobby during intake Jin tried to chase the dog while barking at it. Jin allowed us to scan (negative), collared, pictured, and place in a dog kennel.
07/10/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: “EXCUSE ME,” says Jin from inside his kennel. “I’d like to be taken out PLEASE.” And how could I refuse? Between those delightful bunny ears, that gorgeous fawn coat, and that perfect face I’m instantly smitten so out we go. Once on the street Jin shows me he really meant business by attending to business straight away. This 1 year-old lad is not just a handsome devil. He’s a housebroken handsome devil! As we parade around the block (I say “parade” since taking this guy anywhere results in about as many smiles, “oohs,” “ahhs,” as Macy’s could ever hope for) Jin is curious about anything and everything. With only 12 months under his furry belt Jin has an air of “been there, done that” but clearly the desire to be and do more remains. Free in a pen Jin has suddenly changed. He now has but one single focus: Me! (*blush, giggle, blush*). Ladies, here’s a tip: don’t even think about wearing makeup around this lover boy. A) Just like Bruno, he thinks you’re amazing “just the way you are,” and B) he will lick it all right off with his endless, sloppy kisses! During a break in our love fest I become distracted by my buzzing phone and turn away from Jin Rummy (my new name for him) for a moment. Seconds later I have an adorable, gorilla nose pushed right into my face. “EXCUSE ME! I AM HERE AND NEED ATTENTION PLEASE!” I laugh and apologize again and again. In truth there’s nowhere I’d rather be when this silly, funny, sweet, and yep, pushy boy is around and I wouldn’t change a thing about him. He’s perfect just the way he is. Jin is waiting in adoptions at Manhattan’s ACC.
07/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jin pulls a bit on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. He was overexcited during handling, jumping up, grabbing at the leash, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Jin played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction with a soft body language. He was not interested in toys. Jin shows a bit of concern during the tag interaction he became a bit over arousal. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. Look: 2. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently mouth the assessor hands, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and open mouth, mouths the hand, but does not apply pressure. Tag: 2. played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction and was a bit difficult to distract with a soft body language. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Toy: 1. No interest.
07/07/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Jin has been persistantly sexually motivated (he is unaltered), however has begun to reciprocate with play when solicited. He has not yet been introduced to a male dog while in our care. The behavior team feels that Jin should have a pre-adoption interaction and slow introductions with a resident dog. It has been noted by caretakers that Jin displays concerning behavior when in the same vicinity as small dogs, appearing tense, and fixated while lunging in their direction. It is cautioned against placing him with them or allowng him to greet them at this time. 7/7: When off leash with other dogs, Jin enters the pen with a tense body. He makes persistant attempt to mount the female greeter. 7/8 update: Jin is again tense when he enters the yard. He is sexually motivated but backs away once corrected. 7/9 update: Jin is sexually motivated but will engage in bouncy running play with intent to mount. 7/12: Jin is initially sexually motivated, however begins to play when solicited.
