11/15/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
11/15/16 13:35 Jetta is a two year old staffordshire mix who was surrendered by her previous owner because of issues with their landlord. Jetta was reported to be friendly around strangers. During intake, she solicited attention from counselors. She liked to lick counselor’s hands and follow them around the office. She also liked to put her paws on counselor’s laps and watch while they typed. Jetta lived with a seven year old girl and five year old boys. She played exhuberantly with them, and sometimes a little rough if she was jumping. She has never lived with another animal. Jetta is potty trained and will only have accidents if she is left inside the house without walking for over eight hours. She chews a lot of objects around the house, especially shoes and wires. She is used to sleeping in a kennel because she will chew dog beds and pillows if they are provided for her. Jetta is not bothered when food, toys, or treats are taken away. She does not mind being held or restrained, and allows for baths, brushing, and nail trimming (although she will try to gently pull her feet away). She barks if someone knocks on the door. Jetta was reported to have a very high activity level. She loves chew toys, and chews through smaller toys very quickly. She needs something sturdy. Jetta is used to eating dry food, typically chicken flavored pedigree. She is used to going on half hour walks three times a day, in the morning, afternoon, or night. She pulls hard on the leash but will stop if the command “walk with me” is issued for a few minutes, and will then pull again. She is usually on leash. She was taken off leash a few times. She sometimes get excited and chases birds/squirrels off leash, but always comes back to her owner.
11/18/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Jetta is a determined gal with dainty streaks. She wears the chic “little black dress”, does not walk into puddles and does her business in the curb and not on the side walk. She is quite focused though on what she wants, particularly food, but she will not search my goodies bag, just smell it. She voiced her discontentment at a staff who did not want to share his pizza. Jetta settled nevertheless for a tasty doggy treat. She does have manners and knows how to compromise. Jetta is a riot, dancing and jumping on her hinds, beating the air with her forelegs to beg for treats. She pulls on the leash, does not mind the birds and is courteous to other dogs met. She does sit on command after a few prompts and will come when called. She is a big tail wagger and appreciates her freedom and human company. Jetta is a beautiful Labbish gal, shiny black, a bit thin and who might not have benefited from the undivided attention of her owners. In fact, she was relinquished because “a dog is too much time and work” which is the truth for most good and worthwhile things in life. I like a girl with character and I am sure that given a soft pillow, good food and mostly love and attention, Jetta will loosen her assertiveness and reveal all her soft sides. Come and meet Jetta at the Manhattan Care Center and make her yours.

Jetta typically engages in soft, running play with males and females but is easily overwhelmed by dogs with a more exuberant play style. Her owner reports she has never lived with another dog, so any in-home behaviors are unknown. Based on observations in the care center, the behavior department feels that Jetta could go into a home with another polite, playful dog. 11/17: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Jetta is initially cautious but allows approach. Once able to take time to sniff and investigate, Jetta becomes more interested in play. Jetta engages in bouts of running play. 11/18: Jetta engages in bouncy play with males and females. She will solicit the other dogs to chase her. 11/19-22: Jetta engages in softer play and will shy away from more exuberant dogs. 11/23: Jetta engages in running play with male and female dogs.
