I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 05/13/2017 from NY 11208, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

05/16/17 Monitor dog with pelvic fractures. S/O: BARH. Resting comfortably in cage. Eating/drinking well. EENT: No oculonasal discharge, no sneezing H/L: Lungs clear, no dyspnea. MS: Non-weight bearing lame R hind, ambulates well with other 3 legs. NEURO: No neurologic deficits. A: Stable condition. P: Continue Rimadyl and Tramadol. Good prognosis.

05/13/17 12:36 Jerome is a 4 year old brown brindle male american pitbull terrier who arrived as a stray surrender. Upon intake Jerome was receptive but quiet for introduction as he may be painful from an injury. Jerome approached counselor and rested his head in lap for petting. Counselor was able to scan for microchip (negative) collar and photograph. Jerome was somewhat resistant to walking due to injury but was responsive to other guidance.

Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy 1: No interest. Summary: Jerome was friendly and allowed all handling. No concerns were seen during the handling assessment. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: 5/16/17 Helper Dog (Female) Mia A1110219 Dog-dog: 4. Dog pulls towards the helper dog, ears back, then snaps. Summary: Jerome was relaxed upon approach, but snaps once he came closer the helper dog. PLAYGROUP: Jerome was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. Due to the extent of Jerome’s leg injury, an off leash dog-dog interaction will not be conducted at this time. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 5/13/17 Jerome was calm. Do not tries to attack. Recommend muzzle due to pain. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Jerome so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. Jerome displayed low energy and movement throughout assessment. We recommend feeding with puzzle feeders and food-dispensing toys. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below) _X_Single-dog home/Recommend no dog parks- Due to Jerome’s display of low sociability towards another dog –snapping at her- the Behavior Department recommends that Jerome be the only resident dog until his behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help Jerome associate other dogs with things he likes, such as treats.

Do not tries to attact. Recommened to muzle due to pain. Evidence of Cruelty seen – none Evidence of Trauma seen – broken hip Objective P = 100 bpm R = 20 bpm BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted Oral Exam: dental staining PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: intact male MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, tick infestation CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment broken pelvis ticks Plan advantage II 2.3 ml carprofen sq once 50 mg carprofen BID Po for 10 days with food. radiographs- broken right ischium repeat radiograph in 3 weeks Reffereal hospital is indicated. Prognosis: fair Temporary waiver due to trauma in the hip.
