03/17/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jem came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Jem was friendly with loose body posture, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Jem came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly, social and affectionate towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Jem was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Jem was easy to handle when engaged with the item. When off leash with other dogs, Jem approaches the gate with a tense body posture but does not greet appropriately. She immediately becomes assertive, attempting to mount and chest bumping the helper dog and does not respond to human interruptions. The behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter and we recommend no other animals in the household. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Jem approaches the gate with a tense body posture but does not greet appropriately. She immediately becomes assertive, attempting to mount and chest bumping the helper dog and does not respond to human interruptions.
