07/25/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Pure sweetness with a hint of sauciness, Jean is a petite young lady full of charm and a bit of mischief! With her elegant trot, she is a delight at the park, paying little heed to all the activities of a busy Sunday afternoon. Free in the playpen, she’s content to stay by my side, laying her well-manicured paws lightly on my lap. Jean is estimated to be only a year old so she still has a bit of “puppiness” in her, noticeable when she offers a cheeky nudge when feeling neglected. She’s also a champion snoozer who sleeps soundly in a busy hallway! So if you’re looking for a new companion who seems to be at ease wherever she is, Jean might be the one for you! Another volunteer writes: Jean is a pretty pup, filled with fun! On a recent afternoon she charmed me with her sunny personality, eagerness to get out and play, and gentle nuzzling of my hands when I offered her a treat or a scratch behind the ears. Still quite young, Jean needs her special person to provide patience, training and exercise, so that she can grow into the happy and well-adjusted dog that she longs to be. Meet this sweet girl today, you will fall in love.
07/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jean pulls a bit on the leash. She was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, mouthy (hard). Jean was overexcited during handling, jumping up, mouthy, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. She followed the assessor at the end of the leash with a calm and relaxed body language when playing tag but at the end of the game she was jumpy and mouthy. She took the toy away but had soft body language. Jean is an active dog she need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. She is very friendly and playful but she hasn’t learned bite inhibition with people (control the force of her mouthing). She doesn’t recognize the sensitivity of human skin, and so she bites too hard, even in play. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and open mouth, mouths the hand with a moderate pressure. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body soft, jumpy and mouthy (moderate) Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand applying moderate pressure. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand applying moderate pressure. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place his body between you and the toy. playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Jean initally is a bit nervous and shies away from greeting. Once comfortable, Jean is exuberantly playful and runs around the pen.
07/17/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Jean engages in exuberant play with other dogs, however may require time to warm up around unfamiliar dogs. The behavior team feels that Jean may be placed into a home with another exuberantly playful dog, and may be most comfortable with slow, positive intros done at a pace comfortable for her. She arrived as a stray, so there is no information on her history and behavior with dogs in a home environment. 7/17: When off leash with other dogs, Jean initally is a bit nervous and shies away from greeting. Once comfortable, Jean is exuberantly playful and runs around the pen. 7/19: Cinnamon takes a moment to warm up, then plays exuberantly with males and females. 7/20: Jean is playful and exuberantly, barks to solicit. 7/21: Jean plays exuberantly after given time to warm up. 7/22 update: Jean engages in rough, running play with males and females. 7/25: Jean engages in exuberant, vocal play. She offers correction for mounting.
