08/26/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
JD was brought into our care centers as a stray; any past behavior in a home is unknown. During intake: JD allowed all handling. Throughout his stay in the care centers, JD has been to playgroup displaying social behavior towards other dogs and has also appeared social on relief walks towards his handlers. It has been noted that JD tolerates minimal handling; some forms of direct contact seem to make him tense and uneasy to the point where he will respond with appropriate warning (growling, baring teeth). Upon entering the room to receive his assessment, JD solicits attention from his handlers, seeking the attention although as soon as physical contact was made he became highly uncomfortable; baring teeth, attempting to increase his distance from his handler. Because of this experience, JD became fairly cautious, attempting to flee. The behavior department believes it is not fair to force an assessment with all appropriate signs of discomfort he has shown within the care centers; we recommend he be placed with a New Hope placement partner who can address his medical conditions and then re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment. It is advised JD receive an appropriate period of decompression in a new home environment as well as force-free, reward based training to aide in the process of acclimating to set him up for success.
08/25/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
