06/12/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/12/16 12:12 Jayne Bear was brought in as a return behavior issues (described below) though she reports that Jayne made a lot of progress in her home. Owner says she has no health concerns. Jayne Bear is fearful of some strangers and especially children. Outside she attempts to run from approaching strangers, and lunges at children in passing. She is timid and friendly with some strangers who enter her home but lunges at others. She did this to one stranger who was staring at her. A dog trainer visited her for 1 hour and had fed her treats, but she lunged at her when she suddenly stood up from sitting on the couch. Jayne hasn’t bit anyone. She snapped at her owner while she fastened a harness on her and while she was trying to remove her cone that was caught around her face. She didn’t mind when her owner took her food/treat/toy, moved her off furniture, held/restrained her, or woke her up. Her owner reports that she scratched at the door and barked constantly while home alone for 2 hours. When her owner came back, she barked and growled as she came through the door, but as she approached her, she stopped and began wagging her tail. Jayne had entered her crate but wasn’t able to exit with her cone; now, she won’t approach it. Jayne Bear’s owner describes her as friendly, affectionate, shy, and medium energy. She followed her owner everywhere and sat in her lap. She plays chase and plays with Kongs with bologna, roast beef, or dog treats. She lived inside and slept on the couch with her owner. She ate dry Ziwi Peak and wet Halo dog foods and got hot dogs and boiled chicken as treats. She has learned to urine outside while in her home and hasn’t had an accident in 5 days. She goes to her owner when she has to go outside. Jayne Bear was a bit fearful but social during intake. She allowed petting, and allowed play with her toy. Jeyne became uncomfortable when being collared and leashed; she had to be distracted with a toy. Jayne attempted to snap when her collar was unsnapped and removed. She then tried to hide under chairs.

05/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jayne came into our center after her owner was evicted. She was very fearful upon intake, requiring admissions counselor to take photo from inside her kennel. Jayne walked nicely on leash for her relief walk, no pulling. She allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands during Look item, a bit tense. Jayne stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, lip lick, ears neutral. She was uncomfortable during Tag game, hiding under chair, would not follow at end of leash. She approached assessor at end of game briefly, but then kept a distance. She raised lip.showed teeth during paw Squeeze, so remaining item was conducted using Flank. Jayne had no response to first Flank Squeeze, raised lip on second Flank Squeeze. She showed minimal interest in Toy, sniffing a few times before turning away, never fully engaged. When off leash with other dogs, Jayne avoids dogs and seeks handler attention. After assessment, Jayne calmly and affectionately sat with handler and allowed all petting, rolling over to expose belly. The Behavior Team feels Jayne would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have children. She would benefit from a slow approach/slow introduction, as well as a calm, quiet, structured environment so she can relax and warm up at her own pace. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted, body a bit tense; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, lip lick, mouth is closed Tag: 3. Dog does not follow, hides under chair, unresponsive to touch Squeeze 1: 3. Raises lip, shows teeth Flank squeeze 1. Dog does not respond at all. Flank squeeze 3. Dog slightly raises lip Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Jayne avoids dogs and seeks handler attention.
